Jean is in private practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Linfield College and her Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) from George Fox University. MFTs are mental health professionals who treat a wide array of issues, working with individuals, couples, and families.
Jean has more than thirty years of personal and professional experience in the areas of adoption and parenting children with special needs. She was honored with the Congressional Angels in Adoption award by Rep. Darlene Hooley in 2007. Jean’s life’s purpose is to help others find the hope, healing, strength and grace needed to face the many challenges of life. Her passion is to help individuals, couples and families improve their stress management and coping skills, their resilience and their ability to encourage and appreciate themselves and one another.
Jean’s approach to counseling is attachment based and also employs solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral therapy principles. Therapy is individually tailored to the needs and personality of each client. Couple counseling is based on the principles of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT), Gottmann principles and Adult Attachment Theory. The goal is to build relationships that are emotionally safe for each person.
Together with Jean, you will explore your current circumstances and the impact of your personal history. This will facilitate clarity about your personal goals and assist in finding ways to move toward achieving them. She will encourage you in developing additional problem-solving and relational skills, and shed light on patterns of thinking or acting that hinder you in accomplishing desired changes.
Counseling is a very personal and unique process for each individual. Jean’s personable, comfortable, direct and empowering style will help you on your journey.
