About Me

jean

I find meaning in life by helping others find the hope, healing, strength and grace needed to face the many challenges of life. My passion is to help individuals, couples and families improve their stress management and coping skills, their resilience and their ability to encourage and appreciate themselves and each another. People find that I’m easy to talk to, have a good sense of humor and am strong yet gentle.

My approach to counseling is based on attachment science and also employs narrative, solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral therapy principles. I will tailor your therapy to you individual needs and personality. Couple counseling is based on the principles of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT), some Gottmann principles and, again-adult attachment science. The goal is to build relationships that are emotionally safe for each person.

I have been in private practice since 2003. Prior to that, I worked in adoptions and parenting children with special needs. I am dually licensed: as a Licensed Professional Counselor and as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. I earned my B.A from Linfield then went back mid-life for a Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) from George Fox University. MFTs are mental health professionals who treat a wide array of issues, working with individuals, couples, and families.

When we meet together, we will look closely at what in your current circumstances is keeping you from reaching your desired goals. We might look at how your history is impacting the present. I will encourage you in developing additional problem-solving and relational skills, and shed light on patterns of thinking or acting that hinder you in accomplishing desired changes.

Counseling is a very personal and unique process for each individual. Jean’s personable, encouraging and empowering style can help you move forward on your journey.

My personal life revolves around my family and three dogs. I love to read, camp, kayak and explore. There is so much beauty in nature!
